Good day everyone, Today on this this specific day of 14th February 2008, This website ‘www.jaguarnac.com’ proudly celebrates it’s very first aniversary!!! This, makes me very happy indeed.

Last year, all of a sudden on the occasion of valentine’s day, I ran up to an ISP and got my site registered. Before that, I was happily running a server on my IP, so the start took off within hours. Since then, the website has seen quite a few good things, one of which.. is, this blog.

Blog helped my learning a log during this period. A LOT with HTML and CSS and a bit with PHP as well. It gave me a nice interface to ramble about noob things and kittens ^_^. The homepage though, didnot see much change. Apart from the “Visible” part, the site helped me understand the various factors in Web Hosting, Domain Names, Nameservers, Mail servers, databases, subversion and MUCH MUCH More…..

Currently site hosts a pretty web server running a blog in PHP, a nameserver receiving mails for me, it’s very own nameserver to manage subdomains and a decent database server to satisfy all the data needs. Apart from that, i happen to use the server for my ‘project versioning’ and ‘PHP hesting’ needs (or whatever interesting web thing that comes accross).

IT’s been fun to have a server for the past year and I expect this pleasure for all the years yet to come Thanks to all viewers and commenters for all those views and comments, which gave me a feeling of satisfaction and comfort about my website.

NameServer and Subdomains bring good things to a domain… It’s nice to gain a decent deal of control over your own domain. My nameserver is runing cool for almost a week and am enjoying playing around with it. Though I’ve added several subdomain records to jaguarnac.com, the only subdomain that actually does any good as of now is “mail.jaguarnac.com”.

hMailServer is a great solution for hosting an Email Server. It’s easy to configure, administrate and operate. Coupled with SquirrelMail, we get a good web-based mail service. Plus, we can configure mail clients like Thunderbird or Microsoft Outlook to read the mails. I’m working on a solution that’ll let people register accounts on the server.

(bored to write any further)

With some luck and help from a good friend of mine, I was able to shift my domain off Net 4. This makes me twice happier than usual because i was recently facing terrible problems with net4 support for other work related issues and was definitely not satisfied with the modified administrator panel that they built. Along with the control panels, the telephone support effectiveness also diminished drastically and it was not possible to easily host subdomains with net4.

With my current provider however, i am able to easily manipulate the necessary records for my domain which means i can easily configure subdomains now. For now, the only configured subdomain is mail which allows me to check my mails on mail.jaguarnac.com.

Following article helps while configuring subdomains with Apache…
