DrupalCamp : I am Camping

I’m excited towards tomorrow’s DrupalCamp. This will be third event for me of such type. Previously, PHPCamp and Barcamp pune added huge chunks to my overall knowledge .

I’ve heard about Drupal and have tried to install and play with it a couple of times before today. Somehow, I wasn’t able to get too far with those attempts of mine. I am looking forward for tomorrow to be an enlightening day !!

Totally inspired by PHPCamp , Pune and a dedicated Sunday, I was able to get this nice thing running. Guess what !!! I had JUST the right domain name for it, already in my pocket 

As of now, I plan to use it not as a social networking portal but more as a development platform for applications. Something tells me there’s lot more to be done with this portal. Do it I shall !!! just wait for Sundays

Overall, the thing might be little (or way too much) slow, but I won’t complain. Got my Sunday’s worth and Happiness Quota for entire next week. !!!

Inspired by the PHPCamp yesterday, I psent most of my Sunday to get Shindig and Partuza installed and running. The setup is fairly easy and well explained on the link below :

the guide explains all the things u’ll need to set up these two things using VirtualHosts on WAMP.

for those who wish to place the shindig and partuza in webroot OR use aliases, there’s some extra file editing involved. I’m planning to run a quick install on a VPC and document the steps for general use.

the guide asks you to test the install using this link :

for webroot installs or aliases, this looks something like-

however, the url http://www.labpixies.com/campaigns/todo/todo.xml did not work for me. It kept throwing an empty xml error, and I am still surprised about the cause. Other labpixies applications, however, worked fine on the installation.

I’m enjoyed the PHPCamp. The camp organized at Persistent Systems Pvt. Ltd. was attended by over two hundred interested intellectuals. Nice event, nice ppl.

There were sessions about OpenSocial API, Shindig, Joomla-Shindig integration and OpenSocial apps. Nice lunch, followed by the talks about various tools that enhance PHP development efficiency, Server Scalability, Various common vulnerabilities, Web Application Security and Cross Site Scripting issues. There were few more sessions at 4th floor, however I stuck to the sessions on 7th floor.

OpenSocial and Shindig were two interesting things that I was unaware of till today. Am gonna get my hands into shindig soon nuff. OpenSocial are also promising stuff. Build it for one Social Networking Portal that adheres to OpenSocial Specifications, and it will run on all the other portals that do so. Atleast thats what I could get from the entire talks.

Pre lunch sessions mostly focussed on OpenSocial stuff. They also had a session to explain the process of integrating Shindig and Joomla together.

Web application security presentation by Bipin Upadhyay was the most happening thing of the day. This guy actually demonstrated a few running examples of how things break from cross-site scripting, SQL injections and nasty javascripts.

Overall, good stuff.
